Some special features of Summer of Horror

summerofhorrorexchangeWelcome to Summer of Horror! We ask that you read all the rules before nominating or signing up, but we do want to draw attention to some particular aspects of the exchange that might be new or unexpected to you.
Horror Subgenre
We want to give participants some basic guidance in what kind of horror they receive or create, but rather than create a lot of freeforms for this purpose, we use horror subgenre as one of our matching categories. You are required to include at least one horror subgenre with each request and offer. For descriptions and examples of each horror subgenre category, see our dedicated post! We recognize that these are loosely defined and sometimes overlap, so you may find it more useful to focus on other details of your recipient's requests when making their gift, but the horror subgenres can be a nice starting point. How the relationship tags work
Nominations, requests, and offers may be for solo characters or for groups of characters. All groups of characters are nominated with & symbols, for example Thor & Loki (MCU). While ships are welcome in this exchange, we don't specifically match on them. If you request a group like Thor & Loki (MCU), you can mention in your optional details that you would enjoy receiving the shippy variation, i.e., Thor/Loki. However, you are not guaranteed to receive shipfic, so keep that in mind when nominating and requesting!
The reason we wanted to try this out was because we've found that it can be hard to fit both a ship AND a horror story into a fic, much less into a piece of fanart. We want to give creators a bit more flexibility so that if they're struggling to include both the horror and the ship, they're free to focus on the horror.
Minimum Wordcount
If you're writing fic, the minimum wordcount for an assignment is 500 words. This is because we think bite-sized horror is delicious. (There is no minimum wordcount for treats.)
Request and offer minimums
We're trying out requiring only one offer and one request per participant. This seems to be working well for other exchanges, and we want to see how it works out for us.
You can request 1-10 fandoms, each with 1-20 groups of characters and/or solo characters, at least one medium (fic or art), and at least one horror subgenre. If you are requesting less than 3 distinct fandoms and are out as a pinch hit after the initial deadline, you will be asked to add additional fandoms.
You can offer 1-10 fandoms, each with 1-20 groups of characters or solo characters. Just be sure your offer matches at least one request of another participant (including medium and horror subgenre) by the close of signups!
