Likes: I usually love Happy Endings and Not Totally Angsty Endings, basically, I need a kernel of hope in there at the end and not a complete tragedy. Bitter and sweet combined, y'know? For this exchange specifically, that kernel of hope doesn’t need to be especially prominent, but I really do love human resilience and the exploration thereof, for better and for worse. I find a hint of light makes the darkness even darker.
Additionally, I love complex characterization, not one-note, and I love feeling characters as human. The human experience is so rich!
I love fairy tales and mythological allusions, so if you want to run with elements already present in canon or add in some of your own, I would be very down for that! Same thing for Shakespeare, I’m a huge Shakespeare nerd, and any allusions or inspirations for that would be more than welcome!
I do love smut, and I write it myself, but I absolutely do not expect it, especially for this exchange. If you find yourself inspired, though, I will be delighted!
Finally, a general overarching theme I just love is hope, however small it is or how brutal it gets.

Keyleth & Vax - the Champion of the Matron of Ravens and an Air Ashari, a druid, death and living life intertwined. There is something so cosmic and deeply, inherently tragic about their relationship, and anything that examines how it never seems to be the right time for them, from Season 1 to Season 2. The idea of Vax and Keyleth outliving, outlasting, the rest of Vox Machina because he is the Matron’s Champion and her as a half-elf druid, mechanically not dying.
Solo: Keyleth - the fear Keyleth has about outliving all of her companions. Feel free to get as existential as you please, especially the fear of loneliness. Also, feel free to delve into “pass through fire” and the idea of burning, what that was like mentally, physically, emotionally!
Keyleth & Vox Machina - going off of the above, but specifically in relation to the rest of Vox Machina. Specifically relating to loneliness and having to watch her friends die before she feels accomplished, or so she fears.
Solo: Vax - There’s so much there for Vax, from the twin connection with Vex now being lost and replaced with the Matron, with the very nature of being bound to a death deity. What does death mean to him now?

Ancient Cursed Relic and Weary Knight - in my head, this is like a Frodo and the One Ring situation, or a paladin who has taken up the journey to destroy an artifact or keep it so one else has to be hurt by it. Feel free to edge into the psychological with this, with the weariness and exhaustion that comes with burden, with the questions of if it was even worth it.
Angel Carcass Fallen From the Sky & the Scientists Studying It - a holy divinity, something sacred, being desecrated, made clinical, de-personalized. The horror of something so wrong, an angel’s holy carcass, being desecrated for the pursuit of science. What happens to the scientists? What do they discover?
Faithful Believer and Oathbreaker - the horror of faith, of broken faith. Of believing in something that will let you down, the horror of escaping and being unable to save your loved ones, almost cult-esque.

Horatio and Ophelia - what begins as Horatio and Ophelia watching Hamlet descend into madness on the outskirts of it, with Horatio “knowing” it’s all an act and Ophelia not in on Hamlet’s scheme and it then turns into Horatio realizing Ophelia is going mad, too. What grief does to the people you love. Or, from Horatio’s perspective, realizing the collateral damage.
Gertrude & Hamlet - from Gertrude’s perspective, feel free to go along the spectrum of interpretation EXCEPT Oedipal, I beg of you. But losing her husband and now losing her son, of realizing her new husband is not the man she thought he was, the grief that comes with all of that. Or, for Hamlet, the inherent tragedy of losing both parents when one dies.
Hamlet & Horatio & Ophelia - again, Horatio as the single sane man, watching grief torment his loved ones and somehow staying resilient by the end, of not going mad from all his losses. Also, the three of them as a friendly trio or even as a polycule are welcome!
Hamlet & Horatio - make it romantic, make it platonic, anything that preys on the grief of losing someone before they’re dead and gone. Of Horatio not being allowed to give into his grief, his own madness, at the end.
Solo: Ophelia - Ophelia as collateral damage, Ophelia as victim, Ophelia as heartbroken and betrayed. The horror of realizing the man you love killed your father, the horror of the world around you crumbling, just lean into the tragedy. Ophelia is my absolute favorite, so go wild!

Galadriel & Halbrand - the horror of connecting with someone and realizing they’re not who you think they are, the horror of being vulnerable in the first place. Each of them manipulating the other and being unsure who gets out on top until the very end.
Solo: Galadriel - the grief and tragedy of losing so many, from Finrod to Halbrand, and the blurring of the line between vengeance and justice. How she longs for power and justice in the same breath, the horror of what she’s willing to do to meet her goals.
Galadriel & Sauron - I especially hope for psychological horror with these two, the mental warfare, literally and figuratively.

I love Ron and Flip and would love to see them in a genre horror scenario, like investigating a haunted house or in the woods with something chasing them or locked up together in an evil lab that's experimenting on them to give them powers, etc. I do ship them but you don't have to.
I'm fine with canon-typical depictions of isms. This would be a great canon for sociopolitical horror a la Get Out or Candyman - Ron and Flip in a folk horror scenario is going to play out differently than the typical "white unmarked-Christian character goes to creepy white village." I'm always up for seeing racists or Nazis die horribly.
Art: Flip and Ron in any genre situation - confronting a ghost or monster, fleeing a Gothic house, etc - would make my day.

Miss Marple has a very dark worldview, knowing the worst of human nature and surprised at nothing. One of my favorite things about her is her pursuit of justice in what, to her, is a fallen world. And she's relentless in that pursuit. Mr. Rafiel was quite right when he called her Nemesis.
I'd love to see her and Mr. Rafiel, or her alone, dealing with some outright horror. Several of the stories in The Thirteen Problems border on horror - the pagan shrine with the creepy atmosphere, the bloodstained pavement. I'd love to see it taken a step farther into an unambiguous haunting, a Gothic, or folk horror. For the latter, creepy villages are perfect for Miss Marple, and there's lots of deeply spooky English folklore. I'd also enjoy something exploring her role as Nemesis, maybe taken a bit more literally.

Alternately or in addition, Rust always seemed in touch (way too in-touch) with some kind of otherworldly darkness; what if he has some kind of X-Men more-curse-than-blessing type power (possibly via noncon experimentation) or looked into a Lovecraftian abyss and now an eldritch horror has its claws into him?
I'm OK with permanent character death for this fandom (like in the context of a cosmic apocalypse) so long as they're together till the end.

I really enjoy exploring relationships between women (whether platonic, antagonistic, or romantic) and I feel this kind of genre offers a lot of ways it can be explored. And I also love LOVE supernatural creatures, like skin walkers and mermaids; they're some of my favorites! And then dark fantasy is also a love of mine; I love reading about a fantastical/fairytale setting and seeing how dark and twisted one can turn it. And then honestly science horror, the kind where you're studying something you don't understand and it's so much bigger than you in so many ways beyond physical is horrifying, coupled with actually doing testing on humans is also terrifying.

↳ The Horrors of Femininity To A Unicorn Who Has Never Been A Human Woman Before: The Unicorn learning about womanhood/what it means to be a woman (or viewed as feminine) in the time period the book/movie was set in after being turned into a woman by Schmendrick. Molly has always been viewed as a human woman her entire life, so perhaps she can be written as juxtaposed to the Unicorn's newfound femininity and exploration of perceived womanhood. What does it mean to be a "woman" according to a Unicorn when she's stuck as a human? Would she be confused about certain aspects of womanhood, the ways a woman of the time was expected to act, or how women are treated? (Perhaps she's seen how womanhood works from a distance by watching women in medieval times, but how does it differ for her now that she is human?) Would she ask Molly about that sort of thing? Would Molly have to explain it to her? How does the Unicorn feel about all these revelations? Does she like it? Does she hate it? If she conforms to it, is she ok with that or does she feel something off about it all? How do the expectations of being a woman confront her budding relationship with Lir? How does she react to the uncomfortable or unfortunate sides that come with being perceived as "female", especially in medieval time? Is there a dissonance between her and femininity? It's almost a deconstruction of the horrors and expectations of what a woman should be in that time period when confronted by the Unicorn who has lived an immortal life separated from human society and culture.

But, by the time she sees a unicorn, she is a grown woman, someone who doesn't fit into the mold of people who unicorns visit. To quote: "Because she’s so angry that this creature, embodying everything that society tells her she’s lost, everything she’s thrown away through her own choices, is here now when all that The Unicorn represents is long since behind her." Perhaps explore Molly's childhood, learning about unicorns and wishing on stars to meet one, but life comes in and sweeps away childhood, society ruining innocence and forcing her into the mold it wants her to conform to. But, the unicorn, the unicorn in her heart wished to be set free all along, and the unicorn doesn't come in time. What happens if Molly Grue decided to find, become, or make her own unicorn, albeit in a very twisted, dark way? Maybe she makes her own version of a unicorn like how people in the past would shove different animal parts together to make fake supernatural creatures? Maybe she dives into sorcery or witchcraft to turn herself into some twisted amalgamation of a unicorn or to steal the abilities of one from an actual unicorn? Maybe she seeks out unicorns to kill them to use them/their parts/their horns for her own nefarious purposes? What happens if Molly Grue will go as far as possible to find unicorns or become one?

↳ Vampire Lucy escapes the staking or even survives it, and after the gang have defeated Dracula, she comes back for revenge or even to lure Mina to her side considering how close and well, sapphic-coded they were in the novel. I just love the horror of someone you love being so different and changed, but you still care about them so much that it's just painful to not even recognize who they are anymore.
↳ The Brides communicate with Mina, thanks to them all having the psychic connection with Dracula now. How does it feel to no longer be alone in one's own head? Can she even tell anyone else that she's being tormented by the others? A good opportunity to explore the Brides' pasts, personalities, and whether they're as truly monstrous or ARE as truly monstrous as they are originally written. Perhaps Mina befriends them and she is led down a darker path. Or perhaps they drive her mad, causing her to lose herself.

This was so much fun last time that I'm back to play again! I love these characters, and when it comes to horror, I love their courage and determination and resourcefulness and trust in each other, and I'd enjoy seeing those things pushed to their limits in a horror-type situation. I've got some thoughts for each of the types of horror I've selected, but don't let these limit you if you've got a different idea. Also feel free to take anything from my previous signup, I still like everything I mentioned then, and by all means bring in any additional characters you like. And whatever combination of gen or shippiness you like works for me.
Comedic Horror: some of the situations they get into in canon are funny and scary at the same time, and I like that. Tentacle monsters are kind of hilarious as well as horrifying. The way the WW1 stories ricochet between comedy and nightmare are fascinating to me as well, I love the tension between the two and not knowing whether to laugh or be appalled.
Dark Fantasy: Evil magic? Cursed objects are even canonical, or you could have characters under curses or geases, perhaps EvS is under a spell that forces him to keep making appalling choices until he can be set free? Also I feel like there should be horses in dark fantasy. Possibly evil horses.
Folk Horror: the team ends up investigating an eerie setting, a deserted village? A mysterious island that gets more and more troubling the closer they look? Or perhaps airplane-related folk horror like a deserted aerodrome, or investigating pilot legends and rumours and finding the truth is spookier than Biggles is comfortable with? One of Ginger's Charter Pilot-type stories that's way darker than the others?
Institutional Horror: this says Cold War spy horror to me, trapped in brutal uncaring institutions that don't give the characters any good options and that they can't see any way to escape, particularly EvS but if you wanted to have Biggles discovering that his own side can be amoral and cruel too that would be an interesting story. Also the horrors of WW1 have a lot of this.
Monster Horror: lots of options here, whether a familiar cryptid or a completely novel one. Biggles would absolutely be sent to investigate rumours of strange monsters in remote places - or flying monsters?
Paranormal Horror: Painful superpowers? Or possession, I love possession as a trope, any character being possessed and the others having to figure it out and fix it and prevent him from doing or suffering something awful in the meantime, possessed characters who are violently out of control and hurting others or themselves and have to be restrained, all of this is great
Psychological Horror: characters who don't know what's real and what's not, being unable to trust each other or the evidence of their senses. War trauma and PTSD, too, or horrific medical treament for those things. Also brainwashing. Characters trapped inside their heads while their bodies are out of their control.
Supernatural Horror: Ghost planes! Haunted planes! Or perhaps the castle in Foreign Legionnaire is haunted (or is the lair of a monster, or the well is cursed... it would make a great setting for a horror AU).
Survival Horror: Surviving in inhospitable locations, Algy & EvS lost at sea on a raft, desert or ice or jungle survival, field medicine at its grimmer and gorier end, surviving storms including supernaturally powered storms, living storms, snakebites and similar survival-related injuries, also Biggles building survival and rescue equipment out of the remains of his crashed airplane is actual canon and he should do it again.

My fave is Jason so please don’t write him in an unlikeable light. Also, I have a squick for Dick and Tim-centric whump and hurt content, so please no Dick or Tim being hurt or implying that Dick or Tim has had any trauma even remotely comparable to Jason’s. No bottom Dick + Tim or omega Dick + Tim please. It’s fine to just not mention Dick or Tim at all. (see DNWs.)
The biggest darkest thing that happened to the Batman mythos is arguably that one time Joker beat a kid (the second Robin) to near death with a crowbar, then had him killed in the ensuing explosion while trying to save his narcissistic mother who “fed him to the wolves.” Just think about that for a moment.
I’d love for something psychological or trauma related, or something with survival or existential themes that focuses on the horror of Jason’s trauma. Whether that’s strictly Joker-related or trauma related to death, resurrection, or generally being a child soldier and how fucked up that is. I don’t usually do Joker/Jason, but for this request, it’s fine to have one-sided Joker non-conning, pursuing, stalking, obsessing over Jason if you want.
Prompts:
- in the N52 continuity DC tried to compress and simplify the timeline. One bad “retcon” that came out of that was Joker’s monologue in Red Hood and the Outlaws Vol. 1 #0, where the Batman villain tells the readers that he had single-handedly “created” Red Hood by making sure his father gets arrested and his mother gets O.D’d, etc. Not the most graceful retcon at all but the horror potential? Phenomenal.
- being buried alive, being a prisoner inside your own catatonic body, being lost to time
- Trauma isn't just something in Jason's head. It has limbs and claws and eyes that watch. It manifests as something that consumes and destroys and fractures. It has a form, a name. It absolutely can and will hurt you.
- Basically classical Batman & Robin but make it horror by simply taking the child soldier theme seriously

There’s so much horror potential with the Pottsfield people. You may or may not know this: “Pottsfield” comes from the phrase “Potter’s Field,” which is a name given to mass anonymous graves.
That interpretation lines up with why the villagers are all dead and skeletal and why the pumpkin girl said creepy things to Wirt like “you don’t seem like you’re ready to join us yet.”
Maybe something with how the people of Pottsfield perceive their own deaths? How Enoch, the black cat wearing a costume, guides them?
How does it work with digging up buried bodies so they could “rejoin” them in the festivities? How did these people come into being in this kind of limbo after death, and who were they in life? I love ghost stories and melancholic stories of people with mortal attachments and unfinished business dying. Backstories would be great!
Over the Garden Wall is my all-time favorite Halloween season rewatch, so I would totally be up for some seasonal-themed stuff - pumpkins, skeletons, harvest, witches, ghosts, and more! Would love something that plays with the "underworld" interpretation, with the inhabitants of the Unknown being dead souls or demons.

I just love dark fairy tales so much!! Basically, I would like for a kind of darker, scarier retelling of any of the fairy tales I tagged, would be great if you take messed up details from the original stories to expand on. They don’t have to be complete from start to finish! They can be missing scenes or expansion of an existing messed up scene.
NSFW is welcome. One of my biggest weaknesses is the combination of dark fairy tales & messed up sexual themes. I have virtually no squicks or triggers—if you want to make them really messed up, combining things like incest and extreme underage, feel free to venture.
I wouldn’t mind if you pair up characters who are not together in the original, especially if they’re messed up pairs! So if you want to do Hansel/Gretel/The Witch, All-kinds-of-fur/Her Father, or Snow White/The Seven Dwarves, that would just add more nuance to the story!

Been really into Biblically accurate angels/angelic beings as eldritch beings lately. Would love something that depicts religious ideas as eldritch/cosmic horror, or something with a more scientific point of view that explores the weird anatomies of Biblical beings.
Eldritch Angel(s) & Horrified Human(s): Biblically accurate angels or something else? Are they manifesting as a part of divine visit or for another reason? Can people only see them when they’re having (possibly substance-induced or schizophrenic) visions?
Monstrous Angel(s) & Creeped Out Human(s): I love the uncanny valley (things that look human but are just a bit off), so one thing I REALLY want to see is the angels appearing similar to how they’re usually depicted in paintings (beautiful humanoids with wings) but have some biological characteristics that make them a bit off. Maybe they mold their shells like insects or their eyes are actually mouths. Maybe they have bird talons underneath their robes and lay eggs like chicken.
Angel Carcass Fallen From the Sky & Scientists Studying It: anything from “freshly dead” to “angel skeleton” sounds awesome! Does the horror come from what the body looks like, or why it died, or the fact there are angels at all that can fall from the sky? Can combine with the other two prompts if you want.
