Those scenes, the flashbacks with the chimp. It honestly turns my stomach, that high strung, one pluck away from snapping tension when Ricky is hiding under the table... While I don't need graphic depictions of violence, an exploration of that scene would be wonderful, an expansion of the tension -- and Ricky doesn't need to be the main focus, either! I mean. There's a whole other troupe of folks there during the massacre.
If not that direction, then the realization as an adult that he recreated that moment by trying to tame a wild animal for entertainment, those moments before everyone gets turned into red mist. Or during, even.
OR, as well, a focus on the siblings the night before it all goes down.
For Art, if you go chimp route, I'd love something with bold warm colours. I'm very easy to please with art. I'm fine with gore, though if you go body horror a little light on anything to do with eye damage pls.
As for DNW's: any sexual violence, though unsure how that's applicable here, but either way, dnw. DNW gratuitous focus on eye damage. DNW incest, if the story is about the siblings.

Anything that really hones in on the distinct isolation of space and how that builds upon the terror itself. The incredible loneliness and vastness pushing down all around you. If you wanted, I would love something that focused more on HAL and his devolution into his end state, but also like. A look into how he would have kept himself occupied on his own, how it twisted over time. I just think he's neat.
As for art: anything that really just shows the vastness of space, if possible. lots of negative space.
